IDEF1X Data Modeling of a Student Activity Database Application

READ: Powerpoint slides on IDEF1X Data Modeling (week 3), and carefully read Kroenke, pp. 46 - 56 (there is no videotape to view for IDEF1X)

GOAL: To enhance your modeling capabilities with IDEF1X Data Modeling

SUBMIT: On pp. 65 - 66 are a series of questions (2.57 through 2.63) relating to the STUDENT ACTIVITY IDEF1X Diagram in figure 2-32 (at the bottom of page 65). We will provide for you, below, the solution to parts A, B and C of question 2.57. and you are to "follow suit" and submit parts A, B and C of questions 2.58 through 2.61, part A of question 2.62, and parts A, B, and D of question 2.63.

Q2.57

 A) The relationship between STUDENT and EQUIPMENT is a non-identifying connection relationship.

 B) The maximum cardinalities are 1:N, because a STUDENT can have many items of EQUIPMENT,  but an item of EQUIPMENT can belong to only one STUDENT.

 C) The minimum cardinalities are zero on both sides. An item of  EQUIPMENT does not require a STUDENT, as indicated by the diamond. A STUDENT is not required to have any EQUIPMENT as indicated by using the default.

Now, you are to answer A, B and C for questions 2.58 through 2.61, part A of question 2.62, and parts A, B and D for question 2.63. For part D of question 2.63, your answer will be of the following form (where you are to draw the necessary connection "lines" between INSTRUCTOR and EQUIPMENT, and also between INSTRUCTOR and COURSE.)
